The Magic Day 15
The Magic Day 15
I am truly blessed to have my
sister’s existence,
because without it, my dear
nephew would not exist!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so happy and grateful for
her having my niece also,
because my niece is a patient
and loving and good mother, and without her her two innocent young ones
wouldn’t be here. Just as they are. Plus – who knows who will change the world…
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am truly grateful for all
the clothes and shoes and makeup and food I bought over the last two days!,
because I can feel good about
myself. And I can look good every day now. And I worked to earn those things.
Thank you thank you thank you!
With all my heart, thank you
for having made nice foods for my mother today,
because she asked me could we
stay there, and it was hard for me to hear that but I shopped and cooked and
prepared and it is all almost totally ready now. And delicious and healthy.
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am truly blessed to have J.
in my life right now,
because we are kind to each
other and we enjoy some time together and we are both thinking about maybe...
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
I never expected THIS anymore. What a miraculous surprise of the Universe!
I am so happy and grateful for
You, Jesus,
Because. You suffered and died
and rose. For us.
Thank you, thank you, thank
you, Lord.
I am truly grateful for safety
yesterday,
because the traffic was crazy,
and yet I was safe. A little extra time spent is not a big deal.
Thank you, thank you thank
you!
With all my heart, thank you
for this morning’s gratitudes and this whole practice,
because there were some rough
spots yesterday. Like a fight with A, and some sister stuff and nephew stuff,
and mother ill stuff, and there is all the stuff with the doctor : ( and mother
and J and MA and ML and money and house, and so much loss. And I did spend 5
minutes watching pictures a friend who is a 2-G (a child of parents who were
holocaust survivors) posted, of children of the holocaust. Oh Lord. It was so
painful. So painful. And I did have nightmares. And some nervousness about
today. So I awakened a bit nervous… BUT – as I walked to kitchen to brew
coffee, I started thinking: Wow! I’m so grateful to have awakened. And to be
breathing. And that I CAN walk across the house. And that I HAVE a house. And that
I can see. And that I HAVE a coffee maker. And coffee. And birds outside
awakened me with their singing, so sweetly. And birds inside are singing too…
And it turned it around! My life really IS sprinkled with magic!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
I am so incredibly fortunate
and lucky and grateful for M,
because although she is
Jewish, she called me this morning to wish me a Happy Easter. And we chatted
about lots. And the she said, “You are really a special person. I love you,
Lynn.” And then she said, “I want you to know something. I am working on being
a better listener. I know I jump around and I interrupt and I really am working
on it.” And she called me Sis. Wow.
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so incredibly fortunate and
lucky and grateful for my car and my ability to drive, and the money for car
insurance,
because I will get to my
mother’s today, and I got to the stores this weekend, and I get to work every
day, and I get to fun things like French at the library and beaches and movies
and and and...
Thank you thank you thank you!
--
Ok. And I am to list 10 things
I’m grateful for in a difficult, problematic, or broken relationship that I want
to improve. And it doesn’t matter if this person is currently in my life.
Ok it’s supposed to be the hot
coal that is burning my life.
They say think back to the way
things were before the relationship deteriorated.
Ok. Here goes.
1. J, I am so grateful for the
great sex we always enjoyed together for so long! It brought joy and heat and
happiness to us both. It was private and hot and romantic and ours!
Thank you thank you thank you!
2. J, I’m so grateful for you
leaving when you did. I have grown so much since then. It has been like being
pushed out of the nest. I never would have gone to London alone, or the retreat
alone. I never would have been so open to outside things, getting out as much,
taking French… I never would have played in the recitals. All of these were
good for me. And most of all, I would have stayed a dependent, phobic little
wimp! And a burden and a drain.
Thank you thank you thank you!
3. J, I’m so thankful for all
the time you apologized when we argued. That was so big of you. You
really did put in time trying!
Thank you thank you thank you!
4. J, I am so grateful to you
for that year or year and a half when you cooked every night and did really
everything around here. You made a beautiful, warm, inviting, lovely and loving
home for us. You did it for me I think. Thank you
Thank you thank you thank you!
5. J, I thank you so much for
the little and big presents and surprised. The basil parsley tomato garden omg.
The socks. The charms. The diamonds. The gold. The postcards. Evita at the
dinner theater. My birthday ring. The flowers. The baloney sandwiches and world
report tabloid thing hahah! The eggs with ginger ale. Disneyland.
Thank you thank you thank you!
6. J, thank you so much for
all the time you spent helping me to pick out a piano. Wow. The time, the
place, the energy, the thought, the support. They money. All of it. Thank you
so much!
Thank you thank you thank you!
7. J, every time I was sick
you were there for me. Even more than I would EVER ask now! Thank you SO MUCH
for that!
Thank you thank you thank you!
8. J, you always gave and
still give – so much – to my mother. I never forget the image of you holding up
her back for 40 minutes at a time in the hospital after her big heart event.
And a million other things. The food preps for holidays with her. The pills
still. The patience. The driving. All of it. And you used to say, “I do it for
you. It is us.
Oh John, thank you thank you
thank you!
9. Thank you so much, J, for
the walks. All of them. Botanical Gardens. Pound Ridge with Phoebe off leash.
Tibbetts. Glen Island. Orchard Beach and the path there. Hunts Woods. Ward
Acres. Scout Field and behind. McLean Avenue lol! All of them. The endless time talking and not
talking. The aquaduct. Ahhh.
Thank you thank you thank you!
10. Thank you for swimming
with me, Dear John. In the sound at Orchard Beach and Glen Island. In Barbados.
In pools indoors and out. (And some special fun we had in a few of those
instances oh my ; ) I loved every second
of being in the water with you every time. And oh –the time you were driving us
along a beautiful road and I said, “Now what is that body of water?” And
you said, “That? That’s the Pacific Ocean.” And I had to step in it. We stopped
and I walked right in a bit with my dress held up. So much water us together.
Thank you
Thank you thank you thank you!
11. They said do 10 but oh
thank you, J, for the laughter. The many many times a day for years that we
laughed! Funny, dark, absurd, light, all of it!
Thank you for the laughter. Thank
you thank you thank you!

Yesterday and Today I
spent money but I'm glad.
I bought:
9 undies
2 bras
2 nighties
2 jackets
4 pants
2 sweaters
6 tops
6 shoes/sandals
all new makeup
food all good ingredients to make: African sweet potato peanut stew AND chili AND my pasta "pesto" AND my veggie protein bake + more (spices, bread, protein, walnuts)
I looked cuter today too.
And I did skin stuff last two days and makeup today (I like the unmade-up look but it takes makeup nonetheless lol)
And - and this is BIG - I am glad I did it all - for ME.
Last time was over two years ago, and a lot for L.
Time before that a lot for J and a bit for self
This - for ME.
Yes I still want what I want.
But it will or won't come.
And if it comes I will or won't want it.
And THIS is for ME!
I have gone years without a jacket, raincoat, or winter coat, with uncomfortable or ugly shoes, wearing no makeup to work etc etc etc.
When I had the flood I *showered* with the pots and dishes IN the bathtub! I was too overwhelmed to do it all!
It is - I am - a LOT different now.
Yay.
Yay.
I WANT to keep losing weight (I am one size smaller now!).
I WANT to replace things like bras (I am HUGE on top) more than every TWO YEARS!
I WANT to have shoes. And coats.
I WANT to have good foods.
I WANT to look good every day.
I have ALWAYS been REALLY CHEAP with myself about clothes! Since 1978! Literally! And I still am. Like, I have nothing to change into when I get home from work, and still need 2 jammies...
But I am fine.
And
while I was out, my mother said yes, please could I cook and bring it there tomorrow instead of taking her out. I had offered yesterday because she was going to bed at 5:45. Too exhausted - too exhausted. And all she had done was been taken to lunch 5 hours earlier right up the street.
And I am sad about this decline.
And I am a little overwhelmed about this frazzled vegan trying to bring a nice Easter dinner to my mother!
But I am *fine.*
And J. did not call.
And I am *fine.*
And that is HUGE.
PS While I was shopping this lovely woman was trying on a shoe and asking hubby and he was saying not really - so I made a motion like "he's crazy it's gorgeous on you - buy it" but she didn't understand. So she was like, "What?" not SO friendly. So i laughed and said (so he could hear too): I'm teasing you that he's crazy 'cause that shoe is gorgeous on you and I hope you buy it!" And she smiled and he smiled and they both said, "Are you Mrs. _____?" And I said "Yes! Who ARE you?" (knowing it must have had to do with student).
And they said, "Do you remember ____ ____?" I said, "Yes! Of course!"
Well - they told me they were SO happy to see me! It is EIGHTEEN YEARS LATER! And that they STILL ALWAYS tell this story - hubby said wife is ALWAYS still telling it - and she said yes. We were doing family history, gr. 3. One project was that they were to bring something or share something or tell about something or bring a family member.... anything - as long as MEANINGFUL to their family. Now I work (NOT live but work) in a very well-off community. So they said she was going to be one of the last presenters. And, as you can imagine, people in that community have all kinds of things! One kid's father, the diplomat, brought in a vase from the Ming dynasty. Really! Another had a letter of recommendation to an ancestor, from Abraham Lincoln. Another had the wedding dress ancestor who came over on the Mayflower wore! And so on. THIS child brought in a thermos, her grandma's homemade chicken soup. And put a little in a tiny paper cup for each kind to have a taste. And I had said to her, "Oh Honey. This is SO special! Your grandma's homemade soup! What a *beautiful* family tradition! And you know what? A neighbor will come and with you guys and then someone with them and so on and so on and THAT will make world peace."
Them telling me that made my day - my week.

The Magic Day 13
Day 13
10 Blessings and why I’m grateful:
I am truly blessed to have The
book The Magic, I am so grateful for this book,
because I DO feel sprinkled
with magic! My gratitude is growing and deepening and I am getting through this
vacation with no depression. Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so happy and grateful for
the cleaning I’ve been doing and will continue today.
because my house is getting
better. It is my home, after all. I feel better walking through it, being
in it when it is in order.
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am truly grateful for my
nutribullet and greens,
because yesterday was rough
with the dr’s wife calling four times, but I remembered and went and made a
greens drink. Mostly green chard, some fresh parsley and 4 baby carrots. And it
turned around my internal mood immediately!
Thank you thank you thank you!
With all my heart, thank you
for my wonderful elimination systems,
because my body takes care of
waste materials on its own. I don’t even have to think about it!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am truly blessed to have my
brain,
because I am able to think,
and to purposely not – as in meditation, and my brain takes care of all my body
systems functioning and I can teach, I can study French, I can play piano, I
can make decisions, I can read and write, I can appreciate the sights and
sounds smells and tastes and feels of all of nature’s wonders. I am so grateful
for my brain!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so happy and grateful for
being a good friend,

myself for it. And it helps me to HAVE friends too, as a nice side effect. So I
am grateful to my parents for teaching me how to be a good friend.

because she was strong and
practical and funny and loving and accepting and wise and understanding. And I
have that in my blood!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so incredibly fortunate
and lucky and grateful for honest friends,
because we can trust each other
to get the real scoop on ourselves. From E, in high school, who would say to
me, “Cheryl your eyes are going bullshit again,” to M and MA, ML, St and A who
tell me the truth as they see it as I do for them. Even the world-renowned
person who came to work at our school talked of the importance of having
someone you could really trust – REALLY trust – as in, they wouldn’t just say
what you want to hear, but would level with you.
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so incredibly fortunate
and lucky and grateful for all my many freedoms,
because I get to choose where
I live, what I believe, how or if I worship, my career, my sexuality
(practicing it – I don’t choose to be a heterosexual I just am), what I wear, how
I vote, and what I read and what I say and write.
Thank you thank you thank you!
Thank you thank you thank you!
And today has a Part II here it is and a Part III that is done mentally:

My top ten desires, and
mentally for each answer these:
1. What emotions did you feel
when you received your desire?
2. Who was the first person
you told when you received your desire, and how did you tell them?
3. What is the first great
thing you did when you received your desire? Include as much detail as you can.

The Magic Day 12
and later I will do the other part of today's, although perhaps not in writing.
Day 12:
I am truly blessed to have my
cousin P,
because she used to babysit me
and always made me feel good enough just as I am. She accepted, she was
patient, she was kind. I felt safe with her. This was very important to me, a
shy kid who tended to compare herself unfavorably to others. I liked it best
when my parents were home and even used to kneel on sofa and look out window
while they were gone. P didn’t push. She ~gentled~ me toward my feelings being
ok, but towards doing other things. Thank you P! So patient. So kind. So
giving.
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so happy and grateful for
my father,
because of more than I can say.
He knew me. He loved me. He accepted me. He treated me like I’m someone
special. And he did that for all of us. Everyone (inside our family and out)
thought they were his favorite. (Of course I know I was lol). He was
patient, twinkly-eyed, loved a good laugh, gentle, and a gentleman. He would
bring books on my favorite subjects, and a “Sponge” candy bar to share while we
watched The Honeymooners together.
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am truly grateful for my
mother,
because she would take us to
the beach. And bring grape juice and pepper sandwiches and plums. She would
play limp. She would let us draw all over the walls in chalk the night before
the painters were to come. She kept everything running: our food, clothing,
neat house, social life. Everything. She would surprise us sometimes with ice
cream form the ice cream truck. She entertained beautifully no matter where we
lived. She taught us manners and grace and class. She got me piano lessons and
got a piano. She got me beautiful clothes. She took me to the store for my 10th
birthday and I picked out a doll. And she set that man straight when he said I
was too old for it. She took me to H’s and bought me a yoyo. She “got” what
makes children happy. And despite – or because – she didn’t get most of it when
she was a child, she made sure we did.
Thank you thank you thank you!
With all my heart, thank you
for my closeness with my cousin J growing up,
because I was comfortable
there. There meaning with her.
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am truly blessed to have
passed that test that allowed me to take French,
because I wanted to so much.
And it was a very silly way for them to decide. And it affects me to this day.
I got into the academic program which helped me move on and on and on. AND I
still enjoy taking French! J
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so happy and grateful for
my ability to sew,
because I always enjoyed
embroidery and even making halter tops by hand as a teen. I still enjoy, and
have now taught Je and Al!
People have a number of times
asked, how are my stitches so even, so neat? And I have two answers. The first
is my willingness to rip out! And the second – the second – is that I do
it for the enjoyment of the stitch. The enjoyment of the one stitch. No, not
the finished product. But the enjoyment of the one stitch. This is so
meditative. I am so glad. And yes, reminds me back to my father yet again, as I
think this must be how he was with the foods – the chopping so small, so
evenly. Taking time. Seeming to enjoy the doing for us and for the doing. I am
grateful for my ability to stitch.
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am truly grateful for MA,
because we have been close
since 1989. We have laughed and laughed together. Cried together too. Been
there for each other. Enjoyed very regular times like years of daily lunches…We
understand each other! We accept each other. We are honest with each
other.
Thank you thank you thank you!
With all my heart, thank you
for my cleaning yesterday,
because it continues to get
better and better around here!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so incredibly fortunate
and lucky and grateful for lentils,
because they have protein and
fiber and iron and very little sugar. I am so grateful that I finally appreciate
lentils! They don’t even have to be soaked before using, and lend themselves
well to so many dishes and cuisines!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so incredibly fortunate
and lucky and grateful for ,
Because providing mySELF with
hot coffee in the mornings. Because it is a little thing, but something I am
able to do for myself. And I enjoy the hot, and the caffeine helps me get
started plus positively affects my mood.
Thank you thank you thank you!
Thank you thank you thank you!

I am truly blessed to have
done some cleaning yesterday,
because things are getting better around here. And it
is I who am making them better. And as a bonus, I found some nice things
I’d almost forgotten I had: ) Cheerful!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so happy and grateful for
this vacation during which I. Am. Not. Depressed.,
because summer and Dec and Feb
I was. Oh Lord I am SO GRATEFUL to not be depressed! SO GRATEFUL.
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am truly grateful for
greens,
because they too, are
affecting my mental/emotional health. Kale and green chard and spinach and
romaine and spring mix and collards and broccoli and cabbage, and even roasted
brussel sprouts. I am so thankful!
Thank you thank you thank you!
With all my heart, thank you
for facebook,
because I get such beautiful
streaming positive posts from the pages I’ve “Liked,” and I get to IM, and I am
not lonely. I have met some nice fb friends, and I have irl friends there too.
Thank you thank you thank you!
And thank you to the people
who invented it, and the computers and all it takes to run it, and the people
who run those pages, and my friends who are there, including A who got me
involved.
Thank you thank you thank!
I am truly blessed to have my
birds,
because they tweet an chirp so
much of the day and they are happy and healthy and they give me smiles EVERY
SINGLE DAY, and yesterday – my best thing of the day was when I stood in the
tiny den with the birds flying round and round over my head and up and down. I
was surrounded (so I am also glad for the small size of the den!) by flying
birds! What a miracle!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so happy and grateful for
being okay,
because I am taking deep
breaths, I am eating greens, I am cleaning up, I will start walking, I am doing
French, playing some piano. I am LIVING.
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am truly grateful for my
deep breaths,
because I have so many. Every
day now. And already this morning. I no longer have asthma attacks, my breath
is deep all the way to my navel, and comes readily every day. I am so so
grateful for my deep good clean breath!
Thank you thank you thank you!
With all my heart, thank you
for my appliances,
because I have a toaster over,
a coffee maker, a dishwasher that’s working again, a washing machine, a dryer,
a refrigerator and freezer, a microwave, a stove. I am so fortunate to have all
these things right here in my home! Such ease to get clean good foods and
clothes, wow!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so incredibly fortunate
and lucky and grateful for books, and for the teachers who taught me to read,
and my parents and cousin P and uncle Ch who encouraged me even in
kindergarten!
Because I have access to the
book The Magic. And to all the readings I did for these years and posted here,
which also helped me so much. And because I can therefore write too. And I can
even teach reading. And I have learned history, ideas from other minds, poetry,
native poetry, jokes, biographies, science, psychology, philosophy, religions,
health, so much! Thank you, Books! Thank you, Teachers! Thank you Mommy and
Daddy! Thank you, Uncle Ch! Thank you, Cousin P!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I am so incredibly fortunate
and lucky and grateful for my piano,
because it took about a year
and a half for me to find it. Most I didn’t like, and the couple I did for many
times over budget! And it was within budget! And J. helped me every step of the
way! And when I sat at it, I felt at home immediately. In my price range no
less! It has a nice tone, and the all-important action is just right for
me! And it is pretty to boot. Very simple. Clean lines. Would fit in ANY décor.
That’s just a bonus. I love my piano and am so fortunate to have it!
Thank you thank you thank you!
And thank you to ALL the
people involved. Those who invented the first pianos, those who grew and cut
the woods for mine, those involved in every aspect of the machine made and the
hand made parts, Antonin Petrof, who founded Petrof in 1864, the store Piano
Piano that sold it to me, the saleswoman there, and J for taking me around and
around all that time, and my job that enabled me to by it.
Thank you thank you thank you!
Thank you thank you thank you!
